Any Session-

Do I need to be an artist to participate in sessions?

No Way! Welcoming all artists, non-artists, or people who just love art!
Sessions are focused around stress relief through art exercises. Artists and non-artists alike all have stress they’d like to get rid of. If you’re stressed and love art, these sessions are for you!

Is this like therapy?*

Therapeutic art exercises are meant to help you express your emotions, otherwise known as expressive arts, mindful arts, or wellness arts. Although therapeutic practices may be used in “Art Therapy,” the sessions being offered are non-clinical. *There is no psychoanalysis or diagnosis in the programs offered by Mind Heart Arts. If you feel you need a more in depth session, please seek the advice of a licensed physician or healthcare provider.

What happens in a session (or group session)?

Typically a session will include a relaxation practice which can include calming words, light stretching, or music. Following this focus, we’ll go through an art exercise intended to relieve stress. Lastly, we’ll briefly discuss your thoughts during the art making process (and for 1:1 classes expectations for your next session.) You will not be analyzed during any of the sessions, nor will your art be analyzed or critiqued. The sessions are not about how great of an artist you may be. The sessions are intended to help you express what you’re feeling, relieve stress, and enjoy the art making process. There is no right or wrong way to create!

I’m not a great artist, I don’t think I can participate.

If you love art and have stress you need to relieve, you can participate. This is a judgment free zone! Sessions are intended to help your start your self care process through art. Stick figures, shapes, squiggles, are all acceptable art forms. Give yourself permission to create! Be open to creativity and have fun!

Will I paint in class?

Each session is unique and requires different art mediums. Sessions can include but are not limited to: painting, watercolors, art journaling, book making, collaging, drawing, molding. Everyday supplies are used so you can practice therapeutic art at any time.
